Our CT scanner has arrived!
THE CSSS OF HAUT-SAINT-LAURENT NOW HAS A CT SCANNER IN THE RENOVATED AND EXPANDED MEDICAL IMAGING DEPARTMENT
The medical imaging department of the Barrie Memorial Hospital has a brand-new look. This department now has a CT scanner, commonly referred to as a "scanner." Installed in the renovated and expanded medical imaging department for the occasion, the new medical equipment is operational and ready to serve patients. This CT scanner enables the CSSS of Haut-Saint-Laurent to offer a full range of medical imaging services, providing better service to the population by allowing much faster and more effective diagnoses. Patient wait times for such exams will be significantly reduced.
The CT scanner and the construction work for the new medical imaging department cost approximately $1,940,000. To acquire and install such equipment, the CSSS of Haut-Saint-Laurent received financial assistance of $350,000 from the Montérégie Health and Social Services Agency, $1,440,000 from the Barrie Memorial Hospital Foundation, and $150,000 from the Québec Foundation for the Barrie Memorial Hospital.
The CT scanner is a radiology device consisting of an X-ray tomography system and a computer that performs analyses to reconstruct images of each patient’s anatomy. This machine allows the study of the entire body in very fine anatomical slices. Such examinations are often complementary to conventional radiology and ultrasound. In the case of trauma patients, the physician can obtain a faster and more comprehensive diagnosis.
